I don’t even live in Texas but honestly we need politicians like Beto
What’s so great about Beto?
Doesn’t take any PAC money or big donor money period. Left or right. Won’t be beholden to big money interests.
Already pledged to support Bernie’s Medicare for All bill should he win
Legalization of Marijuana, expunging records of nonviolent drug offenders.
He wouldn’t have voted for Kavanaugh, and he would have voted for the Violence Against Women reauthorization.
Expanding of LGBTQ rights.
Public works projects like extending broadband access to rural areas and funding for the rail project between Dallas-SA-Austin-Houston.
Bringing back and protecting the voting rights act.
Increasing money for the VA.
Finding healthy solutions to immigration and the boarder, just like his home town El Paso a boarder town that’s one of the safest cities in the country
A recommendation for @mahoumanga who likes amazing manga art. Here’s Atelier of Witch Hat (Tongari Boushi no Atelier), by Kamome Shirahama (Shirahama Kamome). Now, this manga has one of the of the most beautiful arworks I’ve ever seen simply because the mangaka has a degree in beaux arts. The story is good too… you’d love all of the characters in it!
I actually have already read Witch Hat Atelier and posted mangacaps of it in the past ! I’m about 5 chapters behind because of school, but I’ll catch up soon.
I’m seconding the recommendation ! A cute story about witches-in-training, it reads like a mix between old-school fairytales and Harry Potter. The level of detail in the art is stunning, and the art-style itself is extremely unique in the world of manga, almost reminding me more of western comics.
We had to write a Mini Comic for my Illustration Class so I did mine based on The Frog and The Scorpion. Hopefully you all know the story!
But if you don’t know the story… In the original the scorpion stings the frog in the middle of the river. When the frog asks “why” the scorpion says “it’s in my nature” and they both die. I like my ending more.
Done with watercolor and pen and ink nib.
I always thought this story was fucked up, even when I heard it as a very young child. I even got put in the naughty corner, and a star next to my name crossed off for questioning it.
This story is so much better, and I like it’s message much more.
Also, the scorpion’s ‘nature’ is to not sting anything it doesn’t perceive as either a threat or food. A mysteriously helpful frog would be neither, and thus would be relatively safe.
The more sinister meaning of the original story is “kindness is wasted on scary people because there’s a chance they might exploit it.” Which translates into “don’t show kindness to strangers”. Which translates into absolute fucking bullshit.
Other cartoons that the publisher refused to print before firing Rogers:
A political cartoonist who had satirized every President during his 25 years at the paper is fired for drawing Trump cartoons.
“This is precisely the time,” Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto (often the target of Rogers’ cartoons) said, “when the constitutionally protected free press – including critics like Rob Rogers – should be celebrated and supported, and not fired for doing their jobs. This decision, just one day after Trump labeledthe news media is ‘our country’s biggest enemy.’“
Y’know, like dictators always do under fascist regimes.
