In Batman #58, we were introduced to Penny Cobblepot, the much younger wife of the Penguin… who doesn’t even show up on panel, with her introduction being Oswald’s henchmen informing him that she had been murdered and dumped outside his nightclub…
Seemingly, she was created purely for this story to cause Oswald to turn against Bane’s stupidly overcomplicated scheme to “break“ Batman, the same scheme which also featured Bane getting Holly Robinson to sabotage Bruce and Selina’s wedding, FYI.
More than a bit of a waste. And more than a bit sexist. *sigh* I miss Scott Snyder.
Side note: Oswald is wearing a monocle with a darken lens, seemingly to hide the injury sustained when Jason Todd up and shot him in the face a short while ago.
Oddly, this is a feature of the Penguin’s new design was not included in Tom King’s other series, Heroes in Crisis, however. There he was more in line with the design from Batman Returns.
Consistancy!
Fun Fact: This is in fact the second new member we’ve seen of the Cobblepot family, with Oswald’s son being introduced over in the recent Batgirl series, Ethan Cobblepot, aka the supervillain Black Sun. He’s the son of Oswald and one of his waitresses, who founded his own tech firm following his dad funding his way through college.
