Adam Lanza was briefly employed by an individual in Newtown doing computer work. Adam worked “as an independent contractor” to resolve computer issues and displayed “expert attributes.” In high school, Adam had a class presentation about how to change folder colors in Microsoft Windows. He did the presentation without saying a word, only demonstrating the steps on a screen. Former classmates recalled that Adam was able to take apart then reassemble a computer within minutes. Adam would also volunteer to film local sporting events when he was in the tech club.

Nancy had once referred a friend to Adam after they mentioned that they were having computer issues. Shortly after the conversation, Nancy drove Adam to her friend’s house. During the drive over, Adam contemplated with Nancy if he should shake her friend’s hand. Nancy’s friend said that Adam was very polite but they had to ask him a lot of questions in order to get answers from him. After the computer issue was resolved, Nancy’s friend wanted to pay Adam for his services. Payment wasn’t accepted, as Adam simply enjoyed working on computers. Nancy had bragged to neighbors about how Adam was highly intelligent and wanted to challenge himself. She told them that Adam allegedly hacked into a government computer system and was visited by federal authorities.
